Her visit took place as part of a mission to support innovative education through the experience of space travel.
Nevertheless Julia’s flight was not only business, it sooner was realization of her blue child’s dream.

After the flight Julia said:
"Today's voyage also has personal significance. I have long had a fear of heights. I continue fighting to stretch my 'comfort zone' to overcome this fear. In sharing my experience, I hope that others will be inspired to face their own challenges with a positive attitude. It is core to the process of learning and growing."
It’s also worth mentioning, that longing to overcome the fear of heights Julia Li raised to the height of about 20 km!

Sergei Korolev developed intercontinental ballistic missile R-7, manned spacecraft “Vostok-1”, which was used to accomplish the world’s first flight of a human on the Earth orbit and became the prototype for the manned spacecraft “Soyuz”. Technologies worked out by Sergey P. Korolev are widely used up till now.

The main crew with the commander Oleg Kononenko and flight engineers ESA astronaut Andre Kuipers and NASA astronaut Donald Pettit and back-up crew with Yuri Malenchenko, Sunita Williams and Akihiko Hoshide spent already two weeks in Baikonur preparing for the launch. We came with cosmonauts’ and astronauts’ families 3 days before the launch to take part in the main and the most important and spectacular events that take place in Baikonur in this period.

One of the main pre-launch events is the roll-out of the rocket from the integration building and its mounting to the launch pad. Our guests were pleasantly surprised to have the opportunity to watch this important process very close to the rocket. It is a really fascinating view, especially early in the morning, and even strong December frost wasn’t the obstacle to observe all the stages of rocket installation. After that our guests visited the integration building where the final assembling of the rocket takes place, and then the crew’s room where cosmonauts two days later checked their spacesuits and prepared to the official report to the state commission.

International press-conference of main and back-up crew was the important event of the second day. This is always a very interesting and exciting moment because up to this time knowing a lot about the rocket, the spaceship and the training we see for the first time the main heroes – cosmonauts and astronauts, and there’s a chance to communicate with them. They answer with pleasure to the questions of journalists about the flight program, united crew and emotions before the launch.

And on the main day the schedule is strict. 6 hours before the launch cosmonauts accompanied with the applause and camera flashes, like Hollywood stars, leave the hotel “Cosmonaut” and move to the cosmodrome. 3 hours before the launch the guests observe the official report of the crew to the state commission, being very close to cosmonauts, chief constructor and the head of commission. Cosmonauts already in spacesuits report about their readiness to the flight and after that follow to buses to go to the rocket. And we have our own program before the launch – visit to museum of cosmodrome and celebratory dinner with the specialists of aerospace field, representatives of NASA, ESA, Roscosmos, and also with cosmonauts’ and astronauts’ families.

And finally we are in the observation point – the nearest safe place to the rocket, where all the headquarters, press and guests observe the launch. After the sunset, we see the rocket in the twilight that is lightened by the projectors. Strong frost, clear weather - that means that visibility is excellent. We hear the conversations with the crew, transmitted through loud-speaking communication and we understand that right now these heroic people will go on the powerful rocket with enormous speed to space! And the sky was lighted, the earth vibrated and Soyuz TMA-03M with cosmonauts onboard started to the orbit as it was planned at 17.16 Moscow time. Our guests said after the launch “This is really amazing, it can’t be described in words, you should see it with your own eyes!”

We wish cosmonauts to successfully carry out their program on International Space Station, and to our present and future guests – good luck and space achievements in New Year!

The representatives of the company came to GCTC early in the morning and waited for the “space start” with true interest.

The employees of the company were subdivided into two crews, which started the training immediately. Emulative spirit reigned in both teams.

The crews easily passed through all the trials: swivel chair, training in “Sokol” spacesuit, “Space Food” simulator. After passing all the trials the winner was definite. Maksim V. Illarionov became the happy winner and the Winner’s Cup with the title “Cosmonaut of Volvo Company” was ceremonially granted to him.

We are pleased, that during the 50th anniversary of the first space flight, the representatives of Volvo company had visited Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Centre and were given an idea of how had the trials of cosmonauts actually are. We are also happy, that all the participants gained positive emotions for conquering their own professional heights!

This time the observation of the Earth from the height of 20 km. was held by a Swiss tourist Michael Bruning.

We congratulate Mr. Bruning with such a significant event and we wish him to continue the heights subjugations and new horizons discovering!

Landing of spacecraft is one of the most important and complicated stages of space flight. Heroes-cosmonauts are coming back to earth, experiencing g-loads, the big team of professionals of search and rescue group provides their rescue and safety. Participation in such an event is an absolutely unique and unforgettable experience!

This time our company organized the tour to Kazakhstan to the landing of Soyuz TMA-02M with the crew Sergei Volkov, Michael Fossum and Satoshi Furukawa. For the second time we are making such journey for Japanese journalists who wanted to meet their cosmonaut. It should be noted that the participants of this program can also be called heroes! Severe weather conditions in steppe at the end of November intensified the impressions of the tour that is anyway extreme even without that! Long way, frost, night in steppe. We overcame all that and fulfilled the main thing – met the cosmonauts! The parachute deployed right above us and after chase through the steppe following the capsule we were right in time for the landing of spacecraft that took place at 6.25 a.m. (msk) as it was planned.

We observed 12 helicopters Mi-8, planes An-24, An-26 and An-12 and 6 searching-rescue cars of Rosaviation successfully provided the security of “Soyuz” landing. Undoubtedly it is the most impressive spectacle! Cosmonauts were assisted in getting out from the descent module, then preliminary medical examination took place and only after that under medical specialists’ watchful eye they were sent to Kostanay airbase. We waited till the last helicopter departure, and the loading of decent module, and the immense and boundless steep became empty and silent again. After the celebratory lunch “in the field” we started back to Astana, satisfied with the fulfilled work!

The search and rescue specialists as usual fulfilled professionally their work, our Japanese guests made wonderful reportages. The crew of Soyuz TMA-02M successfully finished their space expedition. The mission is accomplished!
